Jack Grealish is reportedly in advanced talks with Manchester City and head coach Pep Guardiola is already planning how he can improve the England star.

The midfielder will next week return from his extended holiday and join Aston Villa’s pre-season training.

Grealish was granted a longer break alongside several of his Three Lions team-mates after their Euro 2020 exploits.

England reached the final of the competition but were beaten by Italy on penalties.

Grealish made just one start at the tournament but that has not halted Man City’s interest in a huge transfer.

The Athletic report that the Etihad Stadium hierarchy are in advanced talks over a deal that has previously been rumoured to be worth around £100million.

A move is so close to happening that boss Guardiola has started to map out how he can improve Grealish’s game.

When on the left side, Grealish tends to control a pass with the outside of his right foot.

City coach their players from academy to first team to instead control the ball with the inside of their left foot when they are on the left-hand side of the pitch.

Alternatively, players are told to control the ball with the inside of their right foot when they are on the right wing.

It is a skill that Guardiola quickly coached into Raheem Sterling’s repertoire and saw the former Liverpool star’s game move to the next level.

Grealish has had an excellent two years since his boyhood Villa were promoted back to the Premier League in 2019.

He scored eight goals and assisted a further six as they just about scraped survival in 2019-20.

There were then six strikes and 12 assists last term, despite Grealish missing 12 matches with a knee injury.

Guardiola is hoping for positive news about Grealish and fellow transfer target Harry Kane this week having endured a frustrating summer.

Both players are returning to their respective team’s pre-season training after their involvement with England.

Kane is believed to be returning to Spurs to reiterate to new boss Nuno Espirito Santo and the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave the north Londoners this summer.

Guardiola has had a tough summer with not only his transfer plans being frustrated by international tournaments, but also his squad’s training.

City currently have just three regular starters involved in their preparations for the 2021-22 campaign.

Benjamin Mendy, Fernandinho and Riyah Mahrez are the only individuals who frequently play for the club preparing for the new season.

Third choice goalkeeper Scott Carson is also there. The rest of the group is made up by fringe and academy players.
