Ivan Toney set for lengthy ban after pleading guilty to ‘many’ charges

Ivan Toney looks set to begin a ‘lengthy ban’ before the end of the season after he reportedly pleaded guilty to ‘many’ of the 262 alleged breaches of the Football Association’s gambling rules. Brentford have now been left sweating on the availability of their talismanic frontman, who has been integral to their stunning campaign this season after netting 14 Premier League goals in 21 outings.

But Thomas Frank is now being forced to prepare for life without Toney as the FA prepare to come down hard on the England international centre-forward to make an example of the player.

According to The Mail, Toney has now pleaded guilty to ‘many’ of the charges, meaning he is now likely to be faced with a ban that could be implemented in the near future in a devastating blow for the red-hot Bees frontman.

Toney’s fellow England international Kieran Trippier was previously banned for 10 weeks in December 2020 for giving out information that he was set to sign for Atletico Madrid.

Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton was slapped with an 18-month ban back in 2017 after playing 1260 football-related bets over the course of a 10-year period.

Nonetheless, following an appeal, Barton’s ban was reduced to 13 months as five months were shaved off the initial ban.

Brentford previously noted in a brief statement: “The club has been in discussion with Ivan and his legal representatives. Those conversations will continue privately.”

Toney has already laid on record himself that he has been assisting the Football Association with enquiries after the allegations against his name were first reported.
