Roma’s newest signing Rui Patricio insists it is ‘every player’s dream’ to work with Jose Mourinho, after completing his £9.8million move from Wolves earlier this week.
Patricio becomes Mourinho’s first signing since the former Tottenham boss was appointed as head coach at Roma in May and the goalkeeper can’t wait to get started in the Italian capital.
The 33-year-old believes Roma are capable of winning silverware from next season and beyond – especially now that they have the Special One in charge.
Speaking for the first time since completing his move from the Midlands, Patricio reveals he was looking for a new challenge after a good spell at Wolves and was delighted to hear that Roma were interested.

‘It’s a great feeling to be here,’ Rui Patricio told RomaTV. ‘It’s a chance for me to develop learn and improve and come to a club where I can compete for silverware.
‘I’m delighted and confident and I want to work hard and do my best to help the team.
‘Obviously, I was really pleased when I heard Roma were interested. I was desperate to come here because I definitely wanted a new challenge.
‘I had three years at Wolverhampton where I was very happy and I can only thank them because it was a chance to play in the Premier League.
‘I’ll never forget Wolverhampton because it’s a family club and I love that, but Roma coming in represented a chance to fight for trophies and join a big club, so I’m really excited.’

Patricio insists one of the main reasons for joining Roma was due to working with his compatriot, Mourinho – claiming he is dreaming of winning silverware at his new club.
‘My main objective is to continue working the way I have done so far,’ he added. ‘I want to continue to improve, to help the team.
‘And to fight to help us achieve our objectives, so to win silverware. My main objective is to give everything, to give 100 per cent in training and to learn and improve, because that’s the only way to progress, not just in football, but in life, so I want to continue to develop, learn, work hard and win trophies.’
‘That’s why I’m here – because I dream of winning something. I’m delighted to have the chance to work with Mourinho.
‘This is the first time I have worked with him, but he’s certainly one of the best in the world. It’s a dream for any player to work with him. That was definitely one of the other draws for me, as well as coming to a big club to win trophies and focusing on competing for silverware.

‘I want to do my best, help the team and help the club win trophies,’ Patricio continued. ‘As I have said, this is a great league and I now have the opportunity to play in Serie A against some great teams and great players.
‘There are several teams fighting for the title, so it’s going to be exciting to have lots of teams competing for the same objective.
‘It’s also a huge opportunity to play in another league and experience what the Serie A is all about. I have played in the Portuguese league, in the Premier League and now I have the chance to play in Serie A, which is a big draw.’
The veteran goalkeeper made more than 135 appearances for Wolves, with 37 clean sheets, and helped the team qualify for Europe under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
Wolves technical director Scott Sellars said on the club’s official website: ‘We would all like to thank Rui for everything he has done for Wolves during the past three seasons.

‘He has been part of the best years of the club’s recent history, in terms of the success we have had, coming to us when we were newly promoted and helping the club to achieve two seventh place finishes.
‘He’s been a fantastic servant to the club, but it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to experience a new club in a new league, and a good move for everybody involved. We certainly wish him the very best of luck at Roma.’
Wolves meanwhile are poised to sign goalkeeper Jose Sa from Olympiakos after Rui Patricio edged closer to joining Roma.
As first revealed by Sportsmail on June 9, Sa has been Wolves’ No1 choice ever since it became clear Patricio wanted to link up with Mourinho in the Italian capital.
