Ireland keeper Gavin Bazunu produces save ‘better than Ramsdale’s for Arsenal’
Gavin Bazunu’s remarkable save against Luxembourg in Ireland’s World Cup qualifier has been hailed as ‘better than Aaron Ramsdale’s’ by fans online.
The teenage goalkeeper was between the sticks as Ireland beat their European counterparts 3-0 at the Stade de Luxembourg – but the home side could have well gone ahead inside 21 minutes when Olivier Thill’s long-range effort deflected off Josh Cullen and seemed destined for the keeper’s right side.
However, the Manchester City loanee did brilliantly to tip the midfielder’s swerving shot past the post and out for a corner.
As such, comparisons have been made between his save and Arsenal shot-stopper Ramsdale's earlier this season.
The former Sheffield United goalkeeper pulled off a brilliant stop to deny Leicester City attacker James Maddison a goal from a whipped free-kick.
The save was labelled as the 'best save of the season' by some – but now fans are saying that Bazunu’s effort was even better.
Online, one wrote: “That Bazunu save was better than the Ramsdale one idc.”
Another said: “This is now a Bazunu fan account. Aaron Ramsdale eat your heart out."
A third said: “Arsenal looking a bit thick now for signing Ramsdale rather than breaking the bank for Big Gav. He is the absolute f**king business.”
Someone else chimed in with: “If Ramsdale is worth 25 million Bazunu is worth at least 40.”

A last one said: “That save from Bazunu was better than Ramsdale's save the other weekend.”
The 19-year-old keeper, who’s currently on loan with League One side Portsmouth, has been the number one choice for Stephen Kenny, making ten appearances this year.
Ireland ended their World Cup qualifying campaign in third place thanks to three second-half goals from Shane Duffy, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Callum Robinson.
After the game, Kenny lashed out at Luxembourg boss Luc Holtz for ‘denigrating’ Irish football with his pre-match comments.
Kenny said: “It’s wrong to say that great Irish players just fought for second balls and played caveman football for 100 years.
“That’s wrong to say that and that was unacceptable.”
