Inter’s Calhanoglu nutmegs goalkeeper to score from corner and says he meant it
Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has defied physics with some of the craziest free-kicks ever witnessed in modern football.
Over the years, the midfielder has dropped the jaws of the footballing world with his astounding expertise in dead ball scenarios.
On his day, the Turkish international is one of the continent’s most talented players.
And he caused shockwaves across Europe once again after finding the net against Jose Mourinho’sRoma side, by nutmegging goalkeeper Rui Patricio directly from a corner.
But to the surprise of most Serie A admirers, the former AC Milan star said he intended his outrageous effort.
“Yes, I went for the goal,” Calhanoglu said assuredly after Inter's 3-0 away victory against Roma.
“I always try to go for the near post from the corner flag and this time it went well.”
Calhanoglu opened the scoring for Simone Inzaghi’s side by driving a fizzing in-swinging corner into the near post and through the legs of the former Wolves goalkeeper.
He also provided the assist for Inter’s vital second goal barely nine minutes after his outrageous opener.

And the midfielder took equal pleasure in his fine assist for former Manchester City star Edin Dzeko.
“I am glad at my assist for Edin Dzeko too,” he added.
“Inter dominated the match, we allowed Roma nothing at all, it was a great performance.”
The reigning Serie A champions’ victory over Mourinho’s inconsistent side was their fourth on the trot.
It means they are now only one point away from current league leaders, and fierce rivals AC Milan, who cruised past Salernitana 2-0.
“We had other great ones too, against Juventus and Milan, regardless of the results being draws,” Calhanoglu said proudly.
‘We never stopped believing.
“I feel more confident now and in really good shape. I want to give my best for the team and the club, the rest comes as a consequence.”
