Inter Milan fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to promoted side Monza in Serie A on Saturday as Simone Inzaghi’s men slumped to a fourth loss in their last five league outings.
Inter dominated the game and had 25 shots on goal, but were unable to breach a resolute defence.
Monza then took a surprise lead in the 78th minute through defender Luca Caldirola who met a corner and nodded home from close range as the ball bounced off the ground into the top left corner.
Inter needed three points to return into the top four in a tightly-contested Serie A table.
The club are on the verge of their first Champions League semi-final since 2010 after a 2-0 win in their quarter-final first leg against Benfica on Tuesday.

The goal sparked jubilant celebrations for the newly-promoted side who held on for victory
Inter have now lost four of their last five games in the league as they struggle for form
They league form is poor, however, and they face a battle to qualify for next year’s competition.
They remain fifth on 51 points from 30 games, two points behind fourth-placed AC Milan who were held to a 1-1 draw by Bologna earlier on Saturday.
Monza moved one place up to 12th on 38 points.
They are close to securing their status in the division for another year in their first season following promotion.
