Inter Miami scalper lists £84,000 ticket for Lionel Messi’s debut

The anticipation around Lionel Messi’s debut for Inter Miami is expected to be as great as it has ever been in the history of Major League Soccer. The Argentina legend was officially unveiled to the Miami fans on Sunday evening, and supporters will have to pay top dollar to see his first game.

Messi was in attendance with the rest of his family at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday night as he was officially unveiled to thousands of Miami fans. He was joined by midfielder and former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets, who has also made the switch to MLS, with co-owner David Beckham also present.

Following Messi’s unveiling, there is even greater excitement around the prospect of his debut in an Inter Miami jersey. The 36-year-old projected first outing for the MLS club could be against Mexican outfit Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup on Friday, July 21.

As a result, ticket sellers are seemingly looking to take advantage and make some cash with the demand from fans to see Messi in action. Following Messi’s unveiling, tickets for the game against Cruz Azul at the DRV PNK Stadium have appeared to increase.

On secondary ticket selling websites, some sellers are also seemingly increasing their prices after Messi’s unveiling. According to the Daily Mail, one scalper has listed the price of one particular ticket for £84,000.

Ticket sellers on secondary sites are able to list the prices for the seats at whatever cost they wish. However, it seems unlikely that anyone would be willing to part with a six-figure sum in order to get their hands on the ticket.

The average ticket price for the game is around £372, which while still expensive is significantly cheaper than the aforementioned cost for a scalper ticket. And while the prices have increased for this game, it’s only likely to continue into the MLS campaign.

Inter Miami do not resume their MLS season until Aug. 20 when they play Charlotte FC. That game, also at the DRV PNK Stadium, is also likely to see ticket prices increased as well as extremely high demand.

Even though Messi is an Inter Miami player, it’s also safe to assume that ticket demands for the club’s away games are also likely to increase as fans from across the United States hope to watch the forward in action. Miami are next on the road in MLS on Aug. 27 when they face the New York Red Bulls, but will play FC Cincinnati in the US Open Cup three days earlier on Aug 24.

Prior to Messi’s official announcement, Inter Miami made major changes to their home stadium in order to cope with the added demand that is likely to follow. Bleachers were installed in all four corners of the stadium, adding a further 3,000 seats to increase the overall attendance up to 21,000 people.
