Willian has priced himself out of a move to Inter Miami after demanding more than double the wages of top earner Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

The Brazilian is under contract with Arsenal until 2023 but is keen on a move away from the Emirates after enduring a difficult first season, with just one goal in all competitions.

According to The Sun, the forward was all set for a move to David Beckham’s MLS side but they claim a deal has broken down over the 32-year-old’s wage demands.

Willian joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer and his contract with the Gunners is worth £220,000-a-week.

The forward is said to have asked Miami for £167,000-a-week, which is too much for the American club.

Their top earner is former Real Madrid striker Higuain, who is reportedly on around £80,500-a-week.

Miami boss Phil Neville had been hopeful of bringing the forward in as a replacement for Mexican international Rodolfo Pizarro, who is set to be offloaded this month.

Pizarro is one of the US franchise’s highest earners but has so far failed to score this season.

He is also one of two designated players allotted to each MLS side during the transfer periods, with the other spot taken up by Higuain.

Sides can pay a fee of $250,000 (£176,000) to the league for a third spot.

Miami have struggled in their opening 10 MLS matches, with six defeats, two draws and two wins.

Neville’s side are on a run of four straight defeats and will be looking to turn their fortunes around when they take on Montreal on Sunday.

Willian’s Arsenal contract is worth £220,000-a-week and runs until the summer of 2023
