Inside ‘complicated’ Pochettino situation as PSG try to fend off Spurs interest
Tottenham’s search for a new manager could lead them to reappoint Mauricio Pochettino – but getting the Argentine out of his PSG contract won’t be easy.
Pochettino has been strongly linked with a return to north London less than six months after signing an 18-month contract with the Ligue 1 giants.
Reports over the last few days also indicate that PSG are close to triggering an extension that would see the Argentine’s deal extended by a further year.
But that won’t deter Daniel Levy, who sees Pochettino as the ideal candidate to take over following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in mid-April.
However, prising the 49-year-old away from Parc des Princes won’t be easy, with PSG ’100 per cent convinced’ he will still be at the club next season.
Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano provided an important update on what PSG’s intentions are with regard to Poch.
He said: “It’s true that Tottenham want him.
“It is absolutely true, they were trying in the last days, as has been reported, so this is true, but signing a manager who is under contract is not easy.
“Especially a manager who is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain. PSG are not intentioned to let him leave.
“It is not easy to get Pochettino, you either pay a big fee to PSG, or it gets really complicated.
“Tottenham have other options, not only Pochettino, and at the moment PSG are 100% convinced that they will continue with Mauricio Pochettino.”
Tottenham’s other options include former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte who is now the favourite to take over in north London.
Conte left Inter Milan last week after disputes over the club’s transfer strategy in the wake of their first Serie A title win in a decade.
