Injured Leicester star James Maddison set to miss England World Cup qualifiers

James Maddison could be ruled out of Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Leicester midfielder has already missed four games after aggravating a hip injury which required summer surgery.

Now the 24-year-old looks like he won't be back until after the international break with Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers revealing he's genuinely not sure when his star midfielder will be back.

Rodgers said: “He's still out. There's no real update, but we're probably looking at after the international break. Day on day he's getting better. There's no timeline on it – it's just a case of how he feels.

“There's a bit of soreness there. He's as frustrated as we are. Like any player, he's a boy that trains every single day and he loves his football.”

Rodgers adds: “He loves improving and becoming better. There's always that element of frustration when you are on the treatment table watching everybody outside.

“It's in the same area but it's not the same injury. There's a reaction in the tendon but hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.”

Writing on Twitter, Maddison said last month: "Gutted to be missing out tonight.

"Such an important game in the Europa League. Backing the boys to get the job done."
