Ings ‘sets sights on Man Utd or Man City transfer’ in fresh blow for Tottenham
Southampton striker Danny Ings has been heavily linked with a move away from St Mary's this summer.
Ings has entered the final year of his contract and the Saints are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal which would make him the highest-paid player in their history.
However, talks have seemingly reached a standstill, with reports claiming Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for the 28-year-old.
New Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo is said to want to partner Ings up front with Harry Kane.
However, Tottenham have suffered a fresh blow in their pursuit of the forward, with talkSPORT reporting that Ings wants to join a 'big club' like Manchester United or Manchester City.
It is claimed that Ings has 'his sights set on' a move to one of the two Manchester clubs rather than Spurs, with it also noted that there have not been any official enquiries yet.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has addressed the speculation surrounding Ings' future, admitting that "it's not a perfect situation" but stating that the club have "no reason to sell him".
He said: "He's our player for another year, we paid a lot of money for him. When we brought him here, we invested a lot to get him to the highest level and how he is at the moment.
"We stuck with him with all these injuries he had, gave him the time to recover, gave him the time to perform.
"There's no reason to sell him, but it's always a risk for the player when you go into your final year without a contract.
"That's why it's never good for nobody, not for us, not for him, because you never know what can happen in football – injuries can happen, which nobody wants.
"People on our team are telling him what to do, we have our opinions about what we want him to do.
"He's our player and we'd love him to be here, but one thing is also clear – when he is not extending his contract, that it is not a perfect situation for him, it's not a perfect situation for us."
