Arsenal will continue their summer rebuild by securing the services of midfielder Emile Smith Rowe on a new contract, according to reports. The 20-year-old has had an impressive breakthrough season and looks set to have a bright future at the Emirates Stadium.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is set to revamp his squad after a disappointing campaign.
Arsenal are 10th in the Premier League and will miss out on playing in European competition next season for the first time in a quarter of a century.
The north Londoners were beaten in the Europa League semi-finals by Villarreal, a defeat compounded by the fact that it was masterminded by Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery. It meant that they missed out on an all-English final against Manchester United in Poland on May 26.
And Arteta has already started planning how his new Arsenal team will look next year, with an emphasis on young talent.

The 34-year-old defender David Luiz will move on when his contract expires at the end of June. Luiz joined from Chelsea two years ago and has made 73 appearances for the club, but a hamstring injury seems primed to cut short his season.
Another four players have reportedly asked to leave Arsenal once the campaign has ended. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno, defender Hector Bellerin and midfielder Granit Xhaka and Willian are believed to want a new challenge.
Right-back Bellerin, a target of clubs across Europe, will also miss the rest of the season through injury.
Loanee Dani Ceballos has already suggested that he wants to return to Spain when his temporary deal from Real Madrid ends in the summer.

Martin Odegaard, also on loan from the La Liga giants, might prove to be an expensive addition if Arsenal want to make his stay permanent. They could instead offer to take the 22-year-old on loan again.
It means that the Gunners are set to have a busy summer, with plenty of signings expected to replace those who leave.
Key to the rebuild will be Smith Rowe, who has performed well in an attacking midfield role across his 32 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
The England under-21 star recently scored his first top-flight goal, netting the opener in the 3-1 win over West Brom earlier this month. He followed that up by scoring the only goal in the victory over Chelsea three days later.
And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Smith Rowe will soon agree fresh terms on his contract, which will soon enter its final two years.
“They are still working on the contract of [Emile] Smith Rowe,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast.
“From the player, there is [a] big positive feeling because he wants to stay. I think an agreement is just a matter of time and everything will be resolved.”
