Iker Casillas ‘loses almost 3million Twitter followers’ after posting ‘I’m gay’
Iker Casillas lost over 3million followers on Twitter after he was "hacked" on Twitter – leading to a tweet reading: "I hope you respect me: I'm gay."
On Sunday morning, Casillas had 12.3million followers. However, by the evening, screengrabs of his profile showed his followers had shot down to 9.6million. Casillas later deleted the tweet, and the Spanish shot-stopper then issued another statement, saying he had been hacked.
He tweeted: "Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.” Carlos Puyol, who delivered a response to the initial tweet, also issued an apology.

Puyol shared: "Sorry for a clumsy joke with no bad intentions and totally out of place. I understand that it may have hurt sensitivities. All my respect and support for the LGTBIQA+ community."
Australian star Josh Cavallo, who bravely came out as gay earlier this year, tweeted: "@IkerCasillas and @Carles5puyol joking and making fun out of coming out in football is disappointing.
"It’s a difficult journey that any LGBTQ+ ppl have to go through. To see my role models and legends of the game make fun out of coming out and my community is beyond disrespectful."
The former Real Madrid star's Twitter followers are back on their way up with Casillas now having 9.7million followers.
