Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a January move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. However, club legend Ian Wright won’t be a fan of those transfer plans after his assessment of the Frenchman’s performance in Sunday’s World Cup last-16 win against Poland.
Rabiot played 90 minutes in France’s 3-1 triumph and is a surefire starter against England on Saturday. However, Wright wasn’t impressed by the 27-year-old and his role in Poland’s late consolation goal, pinpointing him as a player the Three Lions can exploit in the quarter-finals.
Wright told ITV: “What I saw of Rabiot – [Jordan] Henderson and Jude Bellingham broke through today – he is someone who can switch off. He switched off when they conceded, switched off in the box, and they conceded in the box.
“He’s going to have to keep his wits about him because France have not kept a clean sheet. We have to go into that game believing we can beat them; otherwise, what are we doing?”
The Highbury icon’s stance is likely to make him uninspired by the club’s transfer shortlist, with Rabiot reportedly in Mikel Arteta’s sights. According to Calciomercato, the Gunners are monitoring his situation and could launch a January pursuit if Juventus open the door in the coming weeks.

The report claims Juve value Rabiot between £13million and £17m as his contract extension grows increasingly more complicated. He is set to become a free agent in the summer once his deal in Turin expires, but the Serie A giants could look to cash in this winter if there is concrete interest.
It’s claimed Juventus chief Federico Cherubini and manager Massimiliano Allegri could request Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga in return. And the 23-year-old may be willing to move overseas, having played just 195 Premier League minutes this season.

Rabiot almost joined Manchester United in the summer, but his transfer broke down over wage demands. The speculation was met with resistance among Red Devils supporters, enraged by the step down after missing out on Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong after a summer-long pursuit.
Erik ten Hag ended up with Casemiro, joining from Real Madrid in a £70m deal. Not a bad alternative whatsoever. Arsenal could be active in January as Arteta bids to maintain their Premier League title challenge, but fans may mirror Wright’s low opinion.
