Ian Wright sends worrying message to Chelsea star Mykhaylo Mudryk
Ian Wright’s verdict on Chelsea star Noni Madueke could be bad news for Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Arsenal legend’s glowing praise could see Mudryk struggle even more for game time at Stamford Bridge.
January signing Madueke has come into the Chelsea starting XI for the last two matches. He finally ended the team’s goal drought with a strike in the second half of the 3-1 loss at Arsenal.
The winger was arguably Chelsea’s best player at the Emirates and was rewarded with another start at Bournemouth on Saturday. Wright singled him out for praise on Match of the Day later in the evening.
His comments suggest Madueke could be in for a sustained stretch in the Chelsea team, though he admits there are still elements of his game that need to be worked on. Wright said: “I thought today he did [make the difference]. It’s his fourth league start, Frank started him at Arsenal.

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard reviews Bournemouth game
“He said the reason he’s put him in is because of how he’s been training and how hard he’s been working in training to try to get that consistency to try and get himself in the team, and he’s done it. He was very, very good today, he gave [Matias] Vina a lot of problems in what he was doing.
“This was the problem with him, it’s the final ball in what he’s going to do. Once he starts getting that in his game, you could see Chelsea have a real prospect on their hands in respect of a player because he looked really good today.”
At £30million, Madueke’s arrival was understated compared to the £88m deal for Mudryk. But it appears the former Tottenham youngster has adapted to life at Stamford Bridge quicker than his Ukrainian team-mate.
Mudryk started at the Vitality Stadium but was taken off after an hour. He is still yet to score for Chelsea and has provided just one assist.

Chelsea have a plethora of wingers in their squad but Madueke could now be another ahead of Mudryk in the pecking order. Lampard was full of praise for Madueke when speaking after Saturday’s win.
He said: “Noni was very sharp, considering he was not so well on Wednesday, Thursday. He trained yesterday.
“I like him as a lad, he’s got really good energy. He will know that because he’s hungry, and I want that. It’s been a breath of fresh air, him coming in, and he’s training well to deserve that.”
