Arsenal legend Ian Wright was in hysterics as Roy Keane trolled Tottenham ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier with Albania. The former Manchester United captain, who is no stranger to a ruthless remark in the studio, was critical of Harry Kane’s difficult start to the season, suggesting the England captain now needs to focus on hitting form for both club and country.

Kane has endured a torrid opening 10 games of the Premier League season, netting just once for Spurs during that time but he was enjoying himself tonight at Wembley as he scored twice in the first half against Albania.

The 28-year-old appears to be suffering on the back of a restless summer that saw him lead England to the Euro 2020 final at Wembley before an agonising defeat on penalties to Italy.

Furthermore, the rest of Kane’s summer was then plagued by relentless transfer speculation as he set sights on a move to Manchester City.

Tottenham were not willing to let him leave though and kept him against his will before Kane reluctantly agreed to stay put in north London.

Keane appeared to show little sympathy though ahead of kick-off, mocking Spurs in the process.

He said on ITV: “He’s got to liven up, he’s got to liven up.

“He’s got to look at himself and say ‘let’s get over these disappointments.’

“Look, he plays for Spurs he should be used to disappointment, it’s not like they win stuff.

“Get back to the basics, get hold of the ball, show some sort of leadership skills and no more excuses.”

Keane’s colleague Wright couldn’t help but let out a laugh as his fellow pundit finished his point.

Presenter Mark Pougatch then offered former Tottenham striker Jermain Defore “the right to reply.”

Wright simply giggled as Defoe turned to the side and said to the former striker: “What you laughing at?”

Speaking in Thursday’s press conference, Kane admitted that he’s been feeling the physical and mental effects of a draining summer, conceding that it’s impacted his form.

“A lot people talk about [the impact] physically, what tournaments take out of you and pre-seasons and going straight back into a season, but mentally, as players, you go through a lot as well,” he said.

“You go through the highs and lows of a major tournament, coming so close to a dream and it being taken away from you in such a quick moment.

“Then it was my first summer of transfer speculation, having to deal with those situations. So, of course, it takes a toll mentally.”
