Ian Wright goes in on Mykhaylo Mudryk after Potter’s Chelsea sacking
Ian Wright has hit out at Mykhaylo Mudryk and claims the Chelsea winger is “not bothered” by current matters at Stamford Bridge. The Arsenal legend has questioned the incentive of players who have been given high wages so early in their careers.
Chelsea signed Mudyrk in January for a fee of £88million. The Blues beat their London rivals Arsenal to the Ukraine star’s signature.
However, his first couple of months in the Premier League have not gone to plan. Mudryk is yet to score and has registered just one assist in eight appearances.
He was often left out of the starting XI by Graham Potter before his sacking on Sunday. Mudryk had two great opportunities to score in Potter’s final game in charge on Saturday, the second in particular a glaring chance in which he could only send a tame effort at Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Mudryk is widely reported to be earning £97,000 a week at Chelsea, a huge increase on what he was being paid at previous club Shakhtar Donetsk. He signed a long-term deal to keep him in west London until 2031.
Wright says a player who has cost so much in terms of a fee and wages should be providing immediate results. However, he reckons giving Mudryk too much, too soon has contributed to a “relaxed” attitude.
The pundit told Premier League Productions: “They’ve bought players and put them on these contracts and if we don’t start seeing something in the next… well, now, we should be seeing stuff now. They’re only going to be losing money on that asset, it doesn’t make sense.

“If you’re going to incentivise them then what happens is, when you speak about Mudryk coming in and he went from let’s say £10,000-a-week to £80,000-a-week or £90,000-a-week and then they incentivise that more so it may go up to £150,000-a-week.
“It’s still nearly £100,000 basic for somebody who shouldn’t be incentivised. Just give him a three or four-year contract and get him in the team.
“At the moment you are looking at him, is he bothered at the moment? He doesn’t seem to me like he’ll be bothered about what’s going on at the moment because he’s got a long contract, this manager will go, we’ll see what the next one does.
“If he comes in and ‘it works out for me, brilliant I’ll kick on’. It’s kind of put something into the players minds where they’re relaxed.”
