I was released by Chelsea last week but I'm a musician
I was released by Chelsea last week but now I’m pursuing a rap career after releasing my first album last year

- However, he is now in search of a new club following his release from Chelsea
- He is juggling his professional football career by trying to become a rap star
Derrick Abu was part of Chelsea’s successful Under 18s side last season, but he is more known for his career as a music star.
The 19-year-old has been with the London outfit since signing for their U11s side. However, the defender is now in search of a new club having been released by the club last week.
While it’s a young player’s dream to break into the first-team squad, it would appear that Abu has a backup plan in mind following his release from the Blues.
Despite failing to reach Chelsea’s senior team, Abu has made a name for himself in the music industry pursuing his very own rap career under the name ‘Cho$en.’
Having started learning music early on as part of his church choir, Abu revealed to Chelsea’s official website how he got into producing songs.

‘I have been making music as long as I have been playing football, going to church with my mum and being involved with the church choir. My love for music only grew from there,’ Abu said.
‘I think I had a natural talent and the most important thing is I enjoyed singing so from there it just became a hobby.’
Born in Regensburg, Germany, Abu released his first album late last year – which goes by the name of ‘Page 1.’
Chelsea fans will notice that one of the tracks is named after Blues star Reece James. While Abu clearly has a passion for football, the defender explained how he manages his professional career and music in his downtime.
‘Firstly, I want people to know that I have always wanted to do both, so I made sure that I was committed to both and ready for the workload of both as I do not want one to suffer at the hands of the other.
‘I want to do both at a high level. It has been relatively easy because I have put my mind to doing both. I believe if I am putting in performances and developing as a footballer, there is no reason I cannot develop as a music artist too.’
