‘I was a football thug and fought brick-throwing Cardiff fans – it went too far’

A group of Newport County football hooligans marched themselves through "flying bricks" to give a Cardiff fan a brutal "pasting".

Trevor Trewick, a former football hooligan turned nomad, described the horrifying scenes of shielding his head from the lobbed objects and bits of brick.

Marching on through the cascade of projectiles, the group of Newport fans got their hands on a Cardiff hooligan.

Trevor warned the hardcore group of fans were "not going to be stopped that day", leading to a "pasting" of a Cardiff fan.

Recalling the horrifying incident that changed his mind on football hooliganism on the Central Club podcast, Trevor said: "There was a big fight, Cardiff had a skip and were throwing bricks and whatever debris they could.

"I remember everyone looked at each other, put their hands over their heads and ran straight at them, while the bricks were flying.

"There was a Cardiff lad who got caught and took such a pasting. It was wrong. They kicked him until he wasn't moving. They dropped a breeze block on him."

With that harrowing experience in the back of his mind, Trevor explained that "respect" between fans could be the difference between life or death in some instances.

Hooligans who were beating and kicking those on the ground were frowned upon by Trevor.

"I save people from kickings at times, and the same as a couple of Cardiff boys, they'd save you as well," Trevor said.

Trevor left the football hooliganism behind after a plea letter to a judge convinced the courts that he would find "salvation" in the United States.

He credits the move with "completely changing my philosophy", SouthWalesArgus reported.
