Hughes in agreement with Carragher after identifying concern over Man Utd trio
Mark Hughes has admitted that he agrees with Jamie Carragher about Manchester United ’s attack and lack of a striker.
Carragher stated his belief that the Red Devils are lacking a quality striker following their 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, their fifth goalless result with fellow ‘big six’ clubs this season.
Questions have been asked of their front men, with Bruno Fernandes their top scorer, closely followed by Marcus Rashord on the wing.
And amid talk of a move for Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, Carragher believes that those are the sorts of players United need to target.
He said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “You've said they're the top scorers in the Premier League but have they got that player to score in the decisive games.
“That player who is going to take them to the league title. People talk about Manchester United needing a right winger – they went for Sancho?
"They need a centre forward more than anything. And a right winger… I think if you've got Rashford, a centre forward and a right-sided player. And Greenwood supplementing that and filling in, he's still a young player. He's going to be a quality player.
“That's where they're lacking now. I wouldn't have a go at Ole for that. I would say it's a lack of quality – and you look at the options.
"You look at the options. In this country you think of Harry Kane – or Haaland coming through.
“Mark, are they players you think Manchester United should be targeting? You're the centre forward who was there when United won the league for the first time."
Indeed, former United hero Hughes was in agreement by suggesting that Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are unable to play in the central role.
He responded: "Yeah, I think you've touched on the right thing there. I've seen United lots, and they've got good quality at the top end of the pitch. Rashford, Greenwood is highly thought of.

“But for me, they needed Cavani five years ago when he was in his pomp. They probably got him at the wrong time. He's still an outstanding centre forward. When I see him playing in this team, I think he gives them a little more focus. They've got confidence going into his feet and things happen around him.
"The reality is, the other players we've mentioned, with Martial as well, they all want to play in any other position rather than down the middle. Rashford would prefer to be down the left side. Martial, would prefer the left side. Greenwood prefers the right.
"Whereas they've all been tired down the middle but you sense not one of them really wants to be there. They need to get somebody with that quality to play down the middle to give them that focus."
And when asked if Kane or Haaland were realistic signings, he added: "They're certainly the type they need to be in the market for. How accessible – or how much ability they will have in the market to be able to track those players. Who knows? There will be a lot
