The attention of many Tottenham fans is now turning to what the club will look like under Paulo Fonseca, with the former Roma boss close to being appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor. It has been a gruelling search, that now looks to finally be over.

The 48-year-old is highly-rated, having enjoyed success in charge of Porto, Braga, Shakhtar Donestk and Roma.

Fonesca is known for playing expansive, attacking football at his clubs, something that will delight Spurs fans.

But after a disappointing season in Serie A which saw them miss out on European qualification, Fonseca was sacked by the Italian club.

It now appears that his next club will be Spurs, where a major rebuild led by sporting director Fabio Paratici will leave fans wondering what their team will look like next season.

Almost certain to start in goal is Hugo Lloris, who continues to be a steady option between the sticks and is an important leader in the dressing room.

Fonseca prefers to play a 3-4-2-1 system, which will lead to much change at the back.

Two centre-backs could be signed to help this system succeed, with Eric Dier and Davison Sanchez failing to impress last term.

The first of those centre-backs could be Joachim Andersen, who impressed on loan at Fulham last term and is available for around £20million this summer.

Possibly joining him in Fonseca’s new-look backline could be Brighton’s Ben White, who is a rising star with England and would offer a composed style of play on the ball.

Spurs are reportedly in a four-way race to sign White from the Seagulls, with a fee of £50m expected to be need to entice Graham Potter’s side to sell.

Toby Alderweireld has been arguably Tottenham’s best defender of the last decade and he will expect to keep his place at centre-back in the new system.

But there will be changes on the right, where Zeki Celik could be signed from Ligue 1 title winners Lille for £13m to replace Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty.

At left wing-back would be Sergio Reguilon, who enjoyed a solid debut season at Tottenham after signing from Real Madrid.

Fonesca’s best two options for central midfield would appear to be Tanguy Ndombele and Giovanni Lo Celso, who have both individually impressed over the past two seasons.

Heung-Min Son will take one of the spots behind the striker after another remarkable season, with Marcus Thuram taking the other if talks are successful for Spurs to sign him from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Though Harry Kane has stated his intention to leave, Daniel Levy’s expected high asking price, coupled with a rebuild taking place, could be enough to see him stay in London and lead the line under Fonseca.

Possible Tottenham starting XI under Paulo Fonesca: Hugo Lloris; Ben White, Joachim Andersen, Toby Alderweireld; Zeki Celik, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovanni Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon; Heung-Min Son, Marcus Thurman; Harry Kane
