Manchester United’s deal for Jadon Sancho has been a real ‘mood lifter’ inside the club, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund star is poised to officially join once Euro 2020 comes to an end. And there’s optimism the Red Devils have struck gold with the 21-year-old, who is expected to become a prominent figure.

Manchester United endured a torrid end to last season.

They went into their Europa League final with Villarreal looking to win a first trophy in four years but, in the end, were beaten in an agonising penalty shootout.

However, since then, United have secured the arrival of Sancho.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay £73million for the England international, making him the third most-expensive recruit in the club’s entire history.

And the Manchester Evening News claim that Sancho’s arrival has been a ‘real mood lifter’ inside Old Trafford.

United are hopeful he can fare better than other wingers who have joined the club in recent years, with big players failing to live up to vast expectations.

Angel Di Maria was an exciting signing when he touched down from Real Madrid back in the summer transfer window of 2014, when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

The Argentina international enjoyed a stunning start to life in the Premier League, with a sumptuous chip against Leicester a standout moment.

But Di Maria lasted just a year before joining Paris Saint-Germain, having fallen out with Van Gaal and struggled to adjust to life in his new surroundings.

After the PSG star, United spent big on Memphis Depay.

The Netherlands international had sparkled at PSV Eindhoven and was considered an heir to Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed for Real Madrid in 2009.

But Depay spent 18 miserable months in Manchester before Jose Mourinho flogged him to Lyon.

In January 2018, Mourinho thought he’d solved the club’s wing woes when he landed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

However, the Chile international never got going at United and was eventually sold to Inter Milan, having previously been loaned to the Serie A giants.

United aren’t planning to stop at the deal for Sancho, either.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also wants the signing of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane, who is determined to leave the Bernabeu after 10 glittering years in Spain.

And, in midfield, Eduardo Camavinga is being targeted.

Regarding Sancho, meanwhile, former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson thinks the 21-year-old will turn out to be a good signing for United.

Eriksson told Stats Perform: “He’s 21 years old and he should have a great future.

“The scouts and the coaches of Manchester United, they will have looked at him 100 times.

“They are sure that this player will be the future, important in the future otherwise they wouldn’t pay all that money. So when he’s coming back to England then there are no doubts about it.

“I don’t see many games from German league but what I can understand is that he’s a great talent and it is interesting to see him join United.

“There you have it with how important the Premier League is. They can take all the best players in the world and that is good for England.”

The Glazers vowed to back Solskjaer on the transfer front when speaking last month, admitting they’d do all they can to ensure the club are competitive at the top again.

“Our goal is to win every competition we compete in, and we will continue to invest in our Academy and in the transfer market to support the manager in an effort to meet the club’s goals,” he said.

“As a club we have devoted a lot of time and resources over the last several years updating and further developing our vast global scouting network to adapt to the modern football environment.

“This is a project that should provide a foundation for long-term success in the years to come.

“In addition, as you all know, we have also been focused on growing and developing our women’s team in line with the traditions and values of the club, and we are committed to continuing that process.”
