England’s inspirational Lionesses insist they must now make history and win their first World Cup final on Sunday.
After beating hosts Australia 3-1 in a pulsating semi-final, Sarina Wiegman’s team warned final opponents Spain they will not be satisfied until the job is complete. Goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo booked their place in the final.
Hemp said: ‘Oh my God, what a feeling. We want to win this now, we have got this far — why not? There are no words to describe how we feel. It’s an unbelievable achievement, every kid’s dream. I’m absolutely knackered! I’ve got a few days to recover and we go again.
‘This team is so special. You’ve seen last year that we can be successful and obviously we want to do the same again. ‘We have all got a dream and are all pushing each other to be the best we can be.’
Captain Millie Bright said the World Cup has always been the target after the Lionesses won the Euros last summer.

‘It’s something we have wanted for so long. We’ve always known there is something missing and it’s the World Cup,’ she said. ‘The dream remains alive. Yet again we have found a way.
‘I’m so happy we could give the fans the dream back home and the fans here as well. To be leading them out will be absolutely incredible.’
Toone’s strike made her the first player, male or female, to score in a quarter-final, semi-final and final at a major tournament for England.
‘It feels unbelievable,’ she said. ‘The ball fell perfectly and I thought, ‘Why not just smack it?’. I’ve never hit a ball like that in my life. It went top bins and I am so happy.’
