Hero footballer helps save opposition player’s life in dramatic scenes

Wolfsberger defender Luka Lochoshvili has been labelled a hero after his quick thinking helped save the life of Austria Wien star Georg Teigl during a clash in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.

Lochoshvili, 23, sprung into action after Teigl, 31, fell to the ground unconscious following a collision with Nikolas Veratschnig's knee during the closing stages of the top division match.

Sensing the seriousness of the situation, Lochoshvili, together with team-mate Christopher Wernitznig, reacted immediately to prevent Teigl from swallowing his tongue.

Incredible footage from Sky Sports Austria shows the pair helping Teigl as other players beckon the medical staff to rush onto the field.

Once help arrived, Lochoshvili was able to walk away from the incident, and after the game he received the embrace of Teigl's teammates, who thanked him for his efforts.

"Fortunately, I just knew what to do. Everyone would have reacted like that in this situation. I think I caught his tongue at the last second," said Lochishvili after the match.

Thankfully, Teigl regained consciousness and was able to walk off the field with assistance from others before being taken to a local hospital.
