Havertz repaid Tuchel’s trust as Chelsea boss confirms what he wants from him
Thomas Tuchel claimed Kai Havertz repaid his trust with a matchwinning performance against Everton.
And the Blues boss then challenged his £71m man and the rest of Chelsea’s bench mob to keep their top-four charge going.
Havertz forced Ben Godfrey into an own goal and then won a penalty which Jorginho scored to help Chelsea climb to fourth.
Tuchel said: "Very pleased with Kai. He used the trust we gave him. He is a player who has all the ability to be a dominant figure in the offence and he stepped up.
“There is no doubt about his quality, talent and character. He has to adapt to the Premier League where we play to win every game, to this mentality, this is normal.
“He used his potential to accelerate our game and took the responsibility to finish himself. This is what we want for him.”
Tuchel, who is unbeaten in 11 games as Chelsea boss, rested Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger.
He said: “Whoever you see on the pitch deserves to be on the pitch. After two intense games it was the moment to change. There was no doubt.
“There is a positivity about the squad. There is a strong bond. You see the quality of the players. Everybody is doing everything to compete at this level.”
Everton lost away from home for the first time since November but remain four points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.
Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti, who will be without Abdoulaye Doucoure for at least two weeks through injury. said: “This defeat doesn’t affect our dream, our target.
“We are looking to fight for Europe. This is good for us. We will be there until the last game. We are disappointed for this defeat but no tragedy.”
