Harry Redknapp has rubbished claims he’s set to come out of retirement to become the new manager of Leeds United.
Leeds have been searching for a new boss since sacking Jesse Marsch last week, but have come unstuck in finding a suitable replacement for the American.
The club have been rebuffed in their attempts to entice Andoni Iraola, Arne Slot and Carlos Corberan to Elland Road, and yesterday were linked with a move to bring Harry Redknapp out of retirement on a relegation rescue mission.
The 75-year-old hasn’t held a managerial post since taking charge of Birmingham in 2017, but has a wealth of top flight experience as manager of West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton, Tottenham and QPR.
However, speaking to talkSPORT on Friday, Redknapp has denied any claims he is set to return to management and is in the dark to how the story emerged.

Leeds are 17th in the Premier League table and just one point of the league’s bottom three
‘I don’t know where it come from’. Redknapp said.
‘Someone rung me yesterday and I said what are you talking about – it’s not April the 1st is it? It came out the air, but I have no idea where it came from. I would do it but it coincides with Cheltenham.’
Joking aside, Redknapp admitted that he wouldn’t be adverse to making a comeback to management but is realistic in his chances for the post at Leeds – even if he offered his services without pay.
Adding: ‘Yeah I would, I love it so I wouldn’t say no I wouldn’t (come back), but I’m honestly not going to get the Leeds job, not a chance. I could go there though, no wages and bonus for keeping them up!’
Leeds are looking to extend their Premier League stay for a fourth season but currently sit 17th in the table, just a point off the bottom three.
Speaking about what he could would do if, hypothetically, he was given the Leeds post, Redknapp likened the role to the appointment of Neil Warnock at Huddersfield.
‘It’s not rocket science getting the best out of people.’ Redknapp explained.
‘No one’s got a magic wand, but Neil will go in there and get the best out of them. He’ll wind them up and they’ll go and perform I’m sure they’ll pick some results up. I wouldn’t bet against him keeping them up.’
The Leeds job isn’t the only current Premier League vacancy, with fellow strugglers Southampton on the lookout for a new boss after they sacked Nathan Jones after just ten games.
Redknapp had an infamous spell in charge of Saints in 2004, where failed to keep the south-coast club in the top flight before quitting to rejoin rivals Portsmouth, and the current role is one that he knows he definitely wouldn’t be in the running for.
Stating: ‘That’s a million to one that one. Their definitely not having me at Southampton. I wouldn’t even go shopping there!’
