Harry Redknapp has confirmed that his nephew Frank Lampard holds an interest in the Aston Villa job despite holding talks with Norwich. The former Chelsea boss, who has taken an extended break away from the game following his dismissal at Stamford Bridge in January, is now eyeing a return to the dugout after recharging his batteries and spending some quality family time.

Lampard held talks with Norwich on Monday following the Canaries’ ruthless sacking of Daniel Farke on Saturday.

The German was told after the club’s first Premier League win of the season – 2-1 on the road at Brentford – that his time at Carrow Road was up.

Farke guided Norwich to two Championship titles and a relegation before receiving his P45 with the Canaries still currently bottom of the Premier League table.

Now Lampard as well former Villa boss Dean Smith, who was also sacked in the past few days, are the two main candidates to take over in East Anglia.

However, former Tottenham boss Redknapp has revealed Norwich is not the only vacancy Lampard is keeping an eye on…

He told Laura Woods on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show: “It’s a difficult one, I think the Villa job for sure is one that will interest in him.

“It’s been a funny old time though Laura, Dean Smith getting the sack at Villa, I was disappointed to see that one.

“He done a great job there, a real Villa man who loves the club, a little bit like Chris Wilder when he left Sheffield United.

“I don’t know, Jack Grealish went and how do you replace Grealish? They were very much a one-man team when I saw them last year.

“He was so good Grealish and they haven’t really replaced him, the people who have come in haven’t really hit the ground running.

“I think he needed more time. But the job is up for grabs, there’s going to be plenty of people and Villa is a great club.

“Norwich is a smashing club run by very good people, so they’re two good jobs for somebody.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is also one of the names on Villa’s shortlist.

However, prising him away from Ibrox could prove difficult mid-season, particularly with Rangers looking to defend their SPFL title as Celtic plot revenge.

Denmark national team boss Kasper Hjulmand is also of interest to the Villains.

The 49-year-old led his country to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 before tasting defeat to England, despite the trauma of Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest.

Hjulmand last managed Nordsjaelland at club level but has also coached Mainz.
