Harry Maguire ‘in last chance saloon’ as Evra pleads for Man Utd fans’ support

Harry Maguire has been warned that he's got one shot left to save his Manchester United career – by club legend Patrice Evra.

And the United icon pleaded with United's fans to stand by their captain as he seeks to turn things around at Old Trafford. Maguire's had a tough time this season under new United boss Erik ten Hag.

The 29-year-old has only featured in four Premier League games during United's resurgence that's seen them win all six of their last games in the division. And, he's fallen foul of the England crowd who jeered him in the Three Lions' dismal Nation League campaign, behaviour that Evra labelled "disgusting."

But Maguire was given the chance to shine once again in United's 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, following the omission of defensive counterpart Victor Lindelöf, who missed the game due to an illness. Maguire grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he produced a robust performance that delighted Ten Hag.

And Evra reckons now's the time for Maguire to re-assert himself as the focal point of United's defence, in the absence of Lindelöf. Although he admitted that Ten Hag will have to get rid of the centre-back if he fails to do so, whilst urging the Red Devils fans to give Maguire the support he needs to flourish.

Speaking to Betfair, Evra said: "Now, if you are a true United fan, I'm begging you to give the man a chance and support him. Also, Harry can't fail. If he fails this opportunity I think he will have to leave the club.

"But I know he can do it and he's going to have the full support of the manager and the players. We don't know what's going to happen, the manager might play Lindelof instead, but even if that is the case, Harry shouldn't give up, he should wait for his moment, it will come and when it does he needs to show us the player he is."

Evra also urged Maguire to turn the anger he's fostered whilst sitting on United's bench into fuel when given the chance to play to increase his chances of featuring in England's World Cup squad. The tournament begins in late November, and Evra reminded Maguire that he needs to get some regular minutes under his belt to secure his name for a ticket to Qatar.
