Harry Maguire can set new Man Utd appearance record in clash vs Liverpool
Harry Maguire is set to overtake Gary Pallister's club record of consecutive Premier League appearances during their derby against Liverpool on Sunday.
The England defender and Manchester United skipper has proven to be a very reliable figure under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and has not missed a league fixture since April of 2019.
The 71 matches that followed have put Maguire level with Pallister, who had a fine run of appearances between November 1993 and May 1995 after leaving Middlesbrough.
The club have detailed the run on their website, saying that the 28-year-old has shown ‘remarkable durability and endurance’ during his time at Old Trafford.
They wrote on Monday: “Manchester United's Harry Maguire has equalled a club Premier League record set by fellow centre-back Gary Pallister.
“Our skipper has played throughout the last 71 league matches, without missing a single minute of action, as he continues to show such remarkable durability and endurance.
“This means he is level in terms of the record since the division started in 1992, which was set by Pallister with the same run between November 1993 and May 1995 and only ended at the start of the 1995/96 season.”
Maguire, who is set to play a key role for England at Euro 2020 this summer, was spoken about after the 0-0 draw with Leeds on Sunday following an argument with Fred.
After his captain was heard calling his colleague a f****** idiot, Solskjaer told the media: “We have got a group that demands a lot of each other.
“The standard is high, both in training and in a game — it is not just about being a nice guy. We demand maximum effort.”
