Harry Kane's stance on Man City move after Tottenham beat the champions

Harry Kane is still hopeful of moving to Manchester City before the close of the transfer window, despite current club Tottenham Hotspur beating the Premier League champions on Sunday afternoon.

Kane was not involved in the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, not even in the stands watching the game, as Son Heung-min scored the only goal in a shock win for the home side.

It was a very encouraging start for new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo, but the Telegraph report that it has not swayed Kane and the England captain still wants the move to City that he has been pushing for since the end of last season.

The 28-year-old expressed his desire to leave Tottenham before England’s Euro 2020 campaign and only returned to training with his Spurs teammates on Friday, which is why Espirito Santo said he missed the game on Sunday.

‘He is continuing his preparation,’ said Nuno of Kane’s absence on Sunday. ‘The delay [in returning], all these things, I think Harry needs to work, he worked today and he will keep on working until he is ready for the team.

‘Players who have had not too many sessions need more work with us, need to be fit. Different cases with [new signings] Bryan [Gil], because he came from the Olympic Games, and also [Cristian] Romero. I think for them it’s important to be here, to feel the stadium, feel the hotel, the meeting, all the processes that we have, it’s important.’

There is stalemate in City’s move for Kane as Spurs want £160m for him and are unwilling to budge with three years left on his contract.

The champions are not willing to pay that much and have not increased their bid from an opening offer of £100m earlier in the summer.

Kane will hope that Manchester City’s failure to score against Tottenham, in a match in which they didn’t start with a recognised striker, will encourage them to return with an improved bid for him and bring Tottenham to the negotiating table.

City boss Pep Guardiola insisted that his side do not need a new striker – despite being open in his interest in signing Kane – as they won the Premier League last season even though Sergio Aguero missed much of the campaign through injury, before leaving for Barcelona.

‘We are the same people as last season when we scored lots of goals,’ said Guardiola. ‘Sergio has gone but he played just seven games and we won the Premier League.’
