Harry Kanes Spurs snub leaves Carragher and Ferdinand disagreeing on Twitter

Former England defenders Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand have disagreed on Twitter on Monday as they reacted to Harry Kane's decision not to return to Tottenham Hotspur training on Monday.

Kane is hoping to push through a move to Manchester City this summer after stating his desire to leave Spurs in a quest to win trophies.

City are planning to make a move now that the England captain has returned from his summer holidays and once they have concluded their pursuit of Jack Grealish.

A £100million bid was submitted to Aston Villa for Grealish on Friday and is expected to be accepted by the club.

Speaking on Twitter, Ferdinand sided with Kane, stating "And I'm not saying that Harry Kane and his tactics to leave are wrong (if we are to believe what's being said). Harry wants trophies and he ain't getting any younger."

Ferdinand infamously forced through his £30million move from Leeds United to Manchester United in 2002 by sitting in Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale's office for over six hours.

Carragher did not agree with Ferdinand's comments, though, and quote tweeted: "I disagree, it is wrong not to turn up for training. We all know he wants to go & can totally understand why.

"But Harry should not ruin his name or relationship with the supporters who idolise him just to get the move. Spurs will always be HIS club."

In contrast to Ferdinand, Carragher only played for one club in his career, spending 17 years in the Liverpool first team and making a total of 737 appearances.

The pair did, however, play together 21 times during their careers on international duty with England and were both members of the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Kane was due to return to Spurs training on Monday after being given extended time off after England reached the final of the Euros.

However, he was not present and it is understood this was his choice and has not been caused by the player returning a positive Covid test.

Kane believes he has a 'gentlemen's agreement' with the club allowing him to leave this summer in order to win trophies and he want to join Man City.

City are only willing to pay £120million for Kane, but Tottenham want £160million to allow Kane to leave the club during the current window.

Unlike Kane, fellow City target Grealish did report for training with Aston Villa on Monday, after returning from his holidays over the weekend.
