Harry Kane has told Tottenham he wants out. And it recently emerged he was open to a move to Manchester United and ‘giving them signals’ ahead of the summer transfer window. The Spurs star is the Premier League’s top goalscorer with 22 strikes – but will end the campaign without a trophy to his name.

Kane has been in terrific form for Tottenham this term.

Despite the club experiencing a difficult season under both Jose Mourinho and Ryan Mason, the 27-year-old has continued to sparkle at the tip of their attack.

Kane has scored 22 Premier League goals and clocked up 13 assists this season from just 33 appearances in the top flight.

But, now, Tottenham face the heartbreaking prospect of their talisman departing.

They’ve already started looking at potential replacements, earmarking Anthony Martial and Gabriel Jesus as players they’d be open to snapping up.

And, last month, it was claimed that Kane was open to a move to Manchester United – and giving them signals that a deal could be struck.

This was reported by Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, while also saying United think a deal can be struck this summer despite their rocky relationship with Tottenham.

Relations have been poor ever since Dimitar Berbatov’s move to Old Trafford back in the summer transfer window of 2008, when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.

On that occasion, Daniel Levy had actually hoped to offload the Bulgaria international to Manchester City.

But United swooped in, picking Berbatov up from Manchester Airport before then forcing Tottenham into accepting a lower fee for their prized asset.

In the years since, Levy has refused to let another player follow in Berbatov’s footsteps.

Luka Modric was a United transfer target back in the summer of 2012 but ended up joining Real Madrid instead.

And it was a similar story with Gareth Bale, who headed to Spain the following year despite United offering more than the reigning La Liga champions.

Mourinho chased deals for Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier during his time at the United helm.

But he missed out, with Spurs digging their heels in to prevent a deal from being struck.

United, however, are expected to push for the signing of Kane – despite recently giving Edinson Cavani a new contract.

And their cause has been helped by Kane himself who, in recent times, has admitted he’s determined to win team trophies – rather than individual awards.

“Individual awards are great, they are fantastic achievements,” he said last month.

“As much as this is great, I want to be winning the biggest prizes that there is to offer as a team and we are not quite doing that.

“When I look back at the end of my career, I will go over it and take in a little bit more.

“The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies.

“It is bittersweet. I would rather be winning team trophies and this award. It is what it is.

“For sure, if I finish my career as Premier League top goalscorer and, hopefully, England top goalscorer, that’d be incredible.

“But it wouldn’t feel as good if I didn’t have a lot of team trophies to go with that.

“If I didn’t have the Premier League or a European Championships to go with that.”

In March, Kane said he wouldn’t stay at Tottenham ‘for the sake of it’.

“I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs,” he said.

“But I’ve always said, if I don’t feel we’re going in the right direction then I’m not someone who will just stay for the sake of it.

“I’m an ambitious player, I want to become one of the best players.”
