Harry Kane’s heavily pregnant wife reacted gave lovely response to Munich move
Premier League transfer update: West Ham look to make double signing
David Beckham has always been the inspiration behind Harry Kane’s decision to become an Englishman abroad. But it was his heavily-pregnant wife Katie who offered up a final piece of advice that Kane himself may well be offering straight back to her in the hectic days ahead.
“With the family, two days ago we were sitting in London and didn’t quite know how it was going to go,” Kane recalled. “We need to find houses, properties. We’re not quite sure how that’s going to work yet. And I’m sure the kids will be fine, they’re young enough to embrace everything. Even now, Kate wants the best for me and best for my career – she just said to push. She wants me to be playing and happy and we all made this decision together.”
Beckham was the hero for Tottenham fan Kane as a kid despite being Manchester United through-and-through. Until the day he moved to Real Madrid in a hailstorm of press attention. Kane may have spent 19 years on the books of the same club, but he always had a similar yearning.
“I remember when Beckham went to Madrid and how big that was,” Kane said of move the shook the world in 2003 when he was just nine. It is no secret I was a massive David Beckham fan. I never wanted to get to end of my career and regret not experiencing different leagues and different cultures and different competitions and that was a big part of the decision.”

Kane’s debut was watched by his entire family and that of his wife and the adult members of the contingent even sneaked into the back of his unveiling press conference the following day. Fish and chips was served for lunch; no tea though. Well, it is the England captain after all.
“Gareth Southgate sent me a text yesterday just to congratulate me and will give me a call next week when things calm down a bit,” Kane said. “I think he’ll be excited now, he knows his striker for England playing at the highest level and that can only help. Players in general will look at this transfer and see how I get on. Me being here will maybe push other players to maybe think about themselves.
“That’s always been my mindset; it should be the mindset of any young player growing up: to keep pushing themselves. Once you get comfortable at a place, and you feel like things are kind of on the same road, it’s time to find another level and find another way to get better. That’s what I’ve done by coming here.”

Still, Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen – who escaped from his first brush with Daniel Levy having signed his man but owing the Tottenham chairman dinner – joked that he had never seen such a big entourage for a new signing. But then with that massive price tag around his neck, these are uncharted waters for everybody.
“£100million is still £100million, so it’s still a lot of money,” Kane said. “I haven’t really had time to be on my phone and see how it’s all playing out at home. But of course I feel that responsibility whenever a club spends a huge amount of money on you. You have a responsibility to repay that. For me I always feel like I do my best talking on the pitch and that what I’ll continue to do. They paid that money to help achieve big things and I want to achieve big things. We’re all on the same path.”
