Harry Kane to finally put Liverpool mistake right after Anfield visit

Harry Kane is finally set to put right the mistake he made in signing a new contract at Tottenham and blocking a potential move to a Premier League giant. Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield, the striker knows he could have joined a club the size of Liverpool earlier in his career and enjoyed trophy success.

Kane is still yet to win any team silverware in his club or international career. The forward has become both Tottenham’s and England’s all-time leading goalscorer in recent months.

However, he has nothing to show for it in terms of silverware. Kane is a goalscoring machine and would still get in most teams across world football.

But Micah Richards believes the biggest mistake he made was committing his future to Spurs. Kane signed a new six-year contract in June 2018.

He was just 24 years of age and heading into the peak of his powers. Tottenham were less than a year away from reaching the Champions League final and were flying high under Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs, says Levy

But tying himself down to that length of a deal meant he was never going to get out easily. If he didn’t know it at the time, he did a couple of summers ago when he attempted to force a move to Manchester City but failed.

Richards reckons Kane could have left Tottenham much earlier if he didn’t sign the contract to join a club like Liverpool. The pundit wrote in the Mail last November: “He’s just absolutely sensational.

“Signing such a long-term contract at Tottenham was a mistake because he could have been at Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich winning the trophies his ability deserves.”

Liverpool have since won the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup and reached two further European finals. Perhaps Kane could have been the difference in the close battles with City and helped Jurgen Klopp achieve more than he has.

Liverpool’s chances of signing Kane are over now and he will be hoping to upset Klopp on Sunday. But after the game, he can go some way to correcting his mistake by leaving this summer.

Manchester United want Kane and have made him their No 1 striker target. He is still a sensation in front of goal and could help Erik ten Hag’s side take a huge step forward.

Kane has 24 goals to his name in the Premier League and he would win the Golden Boot in any normal campaign if Erling Haaland wasn’t doing his thing at the Etihad. Spurs are not in a good bargaining position, with that long deal he signed coming to an end in 2024.

Kane still has time on his side and even though Liverpool fans won’t like it, a move to Old Trafford would see him finally take the step in his career that he should have done years ago.
