Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is ‘delighted at the great news’ that his captain Harry Kane announced he is set to stay at the north London club – despite heavy interest from Manchester City throughout the summer. The England captain was subjected to a reported £128million bid from the Premier League champions, but by not meeting Daniel Levy’s £150m asking price, it appears Kane will spend this season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kane, 28, has spent his entire career at Tottenham, scoring 166 Premier League goals in just 233 appearances for the Lilywhites’ and becoming a club legend in the process.
Having reached the Euro 2020 final, a Champions League final and a Carabao Cup final with his country and team respectively, the talisman has come ever so close to trophies – but has played all three games without winning one.
And this prompted Kane to request for a move to City – who have won 13 major trophies in the last decade – in order to get his hands on some form of silverware.
Yet, despite the move breaking down, Kane has admitted he is happy to stay at Spurs – something which Nuno and his team-mate Pierluigi Gollini are ecstatic about.
Speaking to the press, Nuno was delighted to have his star asset stay with him and put any speculation to bed.
“Great news. Fantastic news. I think since Harry joined us he has been working so this is what we value,” Nuno said.
“His attitude in training has been excellent.
“It’s finished, Harry is going to be with us. He is an option for tomorrow. It is great news for everybody. We are all very happy one of the best players in the world. Delighted to have one more option for the season ahead of us.”
Alongside him was Gollini – Spurs’ first summer signing from Italian outfit Atalanta.
Playing back-up to Hugo Lloris, Gollini is expected to take over the Frenchman’s reigns as he naturally declines – and with the opportunity to play alongside Kane, Gollini too has stated his delight to the media.
“We are very happy. We know how good Harry is as a player and we know how important he is for the team,” the Italian shot-stopper said.
“He is one of the best strikers in the world and it is very big important news for us.”
Kane will look to get back into the Spurs side for Thursday’s second leg UEFA Conference League outing against Pacos de Ferreira.
The Portuguese minnows surprisingly beat Nuno’s men 1-0 in the first leg, giving Tottenham laughing stock status around the nation.
However, with their key asset back and a much stronger team likely to be fielded, Spurs are expected to advance to the group stage.
They can also make it three wins from three in the Premier League with victory over Watford on Sunday afternoon.
