A body language expert has claimed that Harry Kane believes Gareth Southgate is responsible for England’s defeat at the hands of France on Saturday night. The Three Lions crashed out of the World Cup in disappointing fashion, despite appearing to dominate the reigning champions.
After a nervy start to proceedings, Les Bleus took the lead through Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni in the 17th minute. Kane then equalised from the penalty spot early in the second half, before Olivier Giroud headed France back in front with just 12 minutes left.
Southgate’s side had the chance to equalise in the 84th minute after VAR ruled that Mason Mount had been bundled over by Theo Hernandez. However, Kane blazed his effort high and wide – leading many to blame the Tottenham star for the exit.
And body language expert Darren Stanton believes that the player himself feels that it was his manager that let the country down. He told bonuscodebets.co.uk: “When Kane was asked about the team and Gareth Southgate, his eyebrows came together and were pierced, this tells me that he holds Southgate responsible for a lot of what has happened.

“As Kane continues to speak, he expresses what we call a bilateral shoulder shrug when being asked about Southgate. A bilateral shoulder shrug is essentially one shoulder being raised rather than both shoulders, meaning ‘I’m not sure, I don’t know.’
“The significance of the bilateral shoulder shrug means that the person is trying to convey something which they unconsciously have no confidence in what they are saying. My initial reaction says is that Kane holds Southgate responsible, maybe they have had an internal disagreement on strategy but there is something definitely more going on between them.”
Stanton also believes that Southgate holds himself responsible for the 2-1 defeat, explaining: “In key moments, Gareth Southgate makes the same gesture of licking his lips or sticking his tongue out without realising, this tells me that he is having a massive shift in emotion and it appears that he holds himself responsible for the loss of the game.
“Also when he’s asked about his management contract saying he has another year to go, he pivots which means he wants to avoid the question. Based on his emotions, his deviations from his baseline behaviour and his red flags, I would say that Southgate is most definitely considering an exit, if not the executive is above him is considering it, Southgate believes in his heart that his days are numbered as the England coach.”
It remains to be seen whether the former Middlesbrough boss steps down from his post over the coming months after he has weighed up his options. Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham hero Mauricio Pochettino have been linked with the job previously, though the FA are thought to be keen for Southgate to remain in charge.
