Harry Kane ‘heads Man Utd’s three striker shortlist’ for new star centre forward

Harry Kane is reportedly Manchester United’s top transfer target summer.

United are closing in on the signing of striker Wout Weghorst from Burnley. The Dutch international is currently on loan at Besiktas, with the Red Devils confident they can complete the deal this week.

But the Red Devils are only eyeing Weghorst as a short-term boost to fill in following Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden exit in November. Instead, they will look to bring in one of three world class strikers in the summer transfer window, one of whom is Tottenham Hotspur ace Kane.

According to ESPN, Erik ten Hag wants an experienced centre-forward who can offer a different option to the ones he already has available at Old Trafford this season. And so the 6ft6in Weghorst, who struggled with Burnley last season is only a short-term solution.

Meanwhile, England captain Kane will enter the final 12 months of his contract with Spurs in the summer. Tottenham are unlikely to let Kane leave on a free should he refuse to sign a new deal, meaning the shrewd Daniel Levy could decide to finally cash in on his star player.

That would leave United, who have failed to successfully replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his debut season, in a good position to land Kane – though the likes of Bayern Munich are also interested.

Signing Kane will be no easy feat, and failing that, Ten Hag would consider Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko. Osimhen, 24, has been on several big clubs’ radars in recent seasons and has netted 11 in 16 this season.

Sesko, 19, provides a younger alternative and only signed for the Austrian club last summer in a £20million deal. The Slovenian has seven goals in all competitions this season.

For now, United will look to wrap up their pursuit of Weghorst as soon as possible. Besiktas do not want to lose the 30-year-old, who has netted nine goals in 18 games for them, but Weghorst has made it clear he wants to complete his dream move.
