Harry Kane ‘expectation’ and Man Utd guarantee emerges

Harry Kane would be ‘very good fit’ at Manchester United in a transfer that would suit both parties, according to Tottenham Hotspur legend Darren Anderton. But Kane has been told to think again if he believes leaving Spurs for Old Trafford will guarantee the end of his career-long wait for silverware.

Tottenham’s 6-1 mauling at Newcastle United poured significant doubt over Champions League qualification.

In turn, it pushed Kane further toward the exit door amid strong interest from United in a blockbuster summer transfer.

Reports claim that United have already started due diligence for a deal, with Daniel Levy set to demand £100million from Premier League suitors.

And there is said to be an increasing expectation in north London that the 29-year-old won’t extend his contract beyond its 2024 expiry.

It likely leaves Levy with no choice but to cash in at the end of the season if the price is right.

Speaking exclusively to Express Sport, Spurs great Anderton explained that Kane will be tempted by a switch to M16 and would be bound to be a hit in Erik ten Hag’s side.

He said: “Harry Kane in Manchester United’s team, I think, is a very good fit and has a chance of winning trophies.

“So it suits both parties, probably, that that would be a very good move for him. So, yeah, I think he’ll be tempted.

“I think it’s behind the scenes. I’m sure he’ll be speaking to the chairman and not just about his own situation, but who they’re looking to get in to be manager.

“His contract runs out next season. I feel like this is a big, big contract, his last huge decision, but I’m not surprised he hasn’t committed to anything yet.”

But Anderton settled talk that Kane would be certain to finally lift silverware by leaving Tottenham for United.

He named Manchester City as the only club the England captain could join and expect to win trophies regularly before retirement.

“I think it will tempt him for sure, but there’s no guarantee if he goes to Manchester United, he’s going to win trophies,” Anderton added.

“I feel like the only club that you can go to that can almost guarantee it is Manchester City at the moment, the way that they’ve gone over the last decade.”
