Harry Kane 'could run down his contract at Tottenham'

Harry Kane ‘could run down his contract at Tottenham ahead of its expiry next year’ as Daniel Levy weighs up offers for the forward after Erik ten Hag makes him Man United’s main target

  • Kane is keen to compete for trophies with Tottenham struggling for form again
  • It’s unclear if Levy is willing to accept an offer for the forward in the summer
  • A move to United would allow him to chase Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record

Harry Kane could run down his Tottenham contract and leave the club as a free agent next summer, according to a report.

Kane has just one year left on his deal at Spurs with his future in the balance amid the club’s poor run of form.

The club and player have failed to come to an agreement over a new deal with Kane keen to compete to win trophies as he enters the Twilight years of his career.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy must come to a decision over whether to accept any potential bids for the forward this summer, and he will surely not be short of offers.

According to The Telegraph, Kane is weighing up all options around his future, with the move of running down his contract very possible ahead of its expiry.

The forward has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United at the end of this season

Kane would be able to enter pre-contract negotiations with another club in January if he doesn’t sign a new deal at Tottenham.

The England captain signed a new deal at Spurs in 2018, months before they moved into their new stadium, but the club have been on a downwards spiral since losing the Champions League final to Liverpool in 2019.

Manchester United are interested in signing Kane, with Erik ten Hag’s side keen to bring in a forward.

A move to Old Trafford would allow Kane both Champions League football and a better shot at winning silverware, while he would still be able to chase Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record.

United manager Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he wants his side to sign a striker in the summer transfer window

United travelling fans made their views clear at Tottenham on Thursday night as they sang: ‘Harry Kane, we’ll see you in June.’

Ten Hag has earmarked Spurs striker Kane as his priority signing for the summer transfer window and knows a lack of a world-class No 9 is the main issue holding United back from challenging for the Premier League title.

‘Everyone knows, it’s not a secret that over the whole season we have had a shortage of No9s,’ said Ten Hag. ‘First, we had the dropout of [Cristiano] Ronaldo, then Anthony Martial was often not available, Jadon Sancho was often not available, then you have a shortage of frontline players.

‘With fewer players we have to cover many games, so we definitely need players in the frontline who strengthen the squad.’
