Happy Mondays legend Bez was unable to make his boxing debut a winning one against Clayton Blackmore – but his ring walk did at least prove a real knockout with fans.

There was no twisting anybody's melon as the Manchester rock God, 56, made his way into the ring ahead of a truly fascinating bout against Manchester United hero Blackmore.

Introduced by the compere as "Mark 'Bez' Berry", the singer appeared on a stage at the back of the arena as Happy Mondays' iconic hit 'Step On' blared out through the speakers.

Wearing a black hat with goggles and dancing from side to side, Bez loved every minute of the pre-fight shenanigans and even came prepared with a pair of maracas, which he shook gleefully on his way to the ring.

After a quick chat and dance in front of the smiling crowd, the Bolton-born star whipped off his hat and goggles and made his way into the ring.

Unfortunately there was to be no happy ending for the Happy Mondays favourite, with Blackmore, also 56, edging the contest on points at Manchester's huge AO Arena.
