Erling Haaland’s blockbuster £51million summer move to Manchester City is the subject of a fly-on-the-wall documentary.
Haaland, who scored twice on his Premier League debut during the opening weekend of this season, had been trailed by a host of Europe’s top clubs last season – including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Real presented the most credible competition to City landing their primary target in the long search for Sergio Aguero’s successor.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary – called ‘Haaland: The Choice’ – tracks the player’s decision
The inner workings of the 22-year-old’s decision have been captured by Scandinavian broadcaster Viaplay in a project led by former Middlesbrough striker Jan Age Fjortoft.
Once it became clear Haaland would be leaving Borussia Dortmund earlier this year, documentary makers were granted behind-the-scenes access as the Norway international agonised over where his future lay. Key figures, including ex-City captain Alfie Haaland, are due to feature.
The show, titled “Haaland: The Choice”, should offer unique insight into the travails of an elite transfer in the months before Haaland became City’s first signing of the summer.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid had been trailing the player but he opted for Manchester City
Sergio Gomez was announced as Pep Guardiola’s fourth capture of the window yesterday, with the Anderlecht left back signing a four-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
Gomez’s arrival ends the pursuit for a new full back following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s exit for Arsenal. The Spain Under 21 international joined for an initial £11million.
Initially an attacking midfielder, the Barcelona academy graduate has taken David Silva’s old No 21 shirt.
Manchester City have completed the £11million signing of Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht
‘When my brother went on a school trip to London, I asked him to buy me the Manchester City shirt with the name and number of David Silva,’ Gomez said.
‘He was one of my favourite players in that position because when I was a kid I used to play in Silva’s position.
‘To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.’ City are likely to have finished their business in the transfer window, unless Barcelona stump up a substantial fee – thought to be above £80m – for Bernardo Silva.
