Erling Haaland says he’s still some way off reaching the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and described the superstars as ‘the best players in history’.
The Borussia Dortmund striker is having another incredible season with 33 goals in 31 games across all competitions and his form has seen him linked with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.
With Messi, 34, and Ronaldo, 36, edging closer towards the end of their careers, attention has turned towards the next generation of talent with many believing Haaland will rival Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe at the top of the game.

But speaking to Norwegian outlet Dagbladet about the comparisons with the Barcelona and Juventus stars, the striker insisted he still has to improve to match their standard.
‘I think only of myself, to improve my game every day,’ he said.
‘I don’t need to talk about Messi and Ronaldo, probably the best players in history. I still need a lot to reach them.’
Messi has four more goals than Haaland this season while Ronaldo is three behind on 30.

The Norwegian has been linked with a big-money move to several clubs across Europe
As well as being linked with a big-money move, Haaland has been tipped as a future Ballon d’Or winner. Messi has won the award six times while Ronaldo has won it on five occasions.
The striker may need to leave Dortmund to replicate their success and there were obvious frustrations as he stormed off the pitch following his team’s 2-2 draw with Cologne at the weekend.
The Bundesliga side are four points off the Champions Leauge places and reports claim Haaland will leave the club if they fail to qualify for the competition.
According to AS, Haaland is fully aware that he needs to be playing in Europe’s top club competition and ‘refuses to contemplate’ not being involved in it next season.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid are all said to be interested in signing him this summer.
