Guendouzi sends emotional message to Arsenal fans before Marseille transfer
Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi has sent an emotional message to supporters ahead of his proposed move to Marseille.
The Frenchman is set to join the Ligue 1 club on a season-long loan and the deal will include an obligation to buy clause for a fee of around £10m.
Guendouzi joined Arsenal from Lorient for a fee of around £5m in 2018 and he impressed in the early days of his stint at the Emirates under Unai Emery.
However, the Frenchman’s application came under question and he experienced attitude problems during his time under Mikel Arteta, who ostracised Guendouzi after he clashed with Neal Maupay during a defeat to Brighton 12 months ago.
Guendouzi spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin but he says he’ll never forget his time as a Gooner as he closes in on a permanent departure.
‘Thank you @Arsenal,’ wrote Guendouzi.
‘Thanks for everything! I discovered and learned so much during my time here. It would be impossible to list everything without forgetting one memory or word…But I will never forget any minute spent with the Gunners jersey.
‘I will never forget the Emirates Stadium. I will never forget the fans. I won’t forget the city. I will never forget everything I’ve been through here. I will never forget that my only will was to defend with pride Arsenal colours.
‘Thanks to all of those who believed in me during my time here, during the good and the bad moments. I can only wish the best to the club and its fan who deserve so much, trust me!
‘Goodbye Arsenal, I will never forget you and will be a Gooner forever.’
Guendouzi is part of a mass exodus at the Emirates this summer, joining David Luiz, Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos out of the club.
Granit Xhaka is set to join Roma following Switzerland’s Euro2020 exit, while Hector Bellerin and Ainsley-Maitland Niles could follow.
Arteta hopes to sign Wolves’ Ruben Neves to strengthen his midfield.
