Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will "enjoy a glass of wine" despite their 2-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Citizens were undone by goals from Idrissa Gana Gueye and star man Lionel Messi, someone the City boss knows all too well from his four years as Barcelona manager.

The Parisian side's second was scintillating. A typical burst forward from Messi was met with a one-two with Kylian Mbappe who laid off the ball on the edge of the area for the Argentine to slot into the top corner.

It was a strike Guardiola himself labelled as "fantastic" in his post-match interview.

Ever-praising of Messi, the City manager stated his admiration for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner saying: "I wish him all the best".

And despite limiting Messi to few touches of the ball, Guardiola was adamant you can't stop the Argentine for the entire game:

"We know it’s impossible to control Leo during 90 minutes but he was not much in touch with the ball," said the Man City manager as reported in the Manchester Evening News.

"He was coming back from injury, but we know quite well when he can run and get close to the box he is unstoppable. We did quite well to reduce those chances."

The City boss was also quick to deny claims that the defeat will have ramifications in their next few matches; the Citizens travel to Anfield this weekend to face Liverpool in a top-of-the-table crunch clash.

"Now we are going to eat well tonight," said Guardiola after the game.

"We are going to drink a glass of wine, recover and then prepare for the game [at Liverpool] on Sunday."
