Pep Guardiola has insisted he has ‘unfinished business’ in the Champions League as he looks to guide Manchester City to European glory this season.

The manager has won the competition twice, with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, but the trophy has eluded him since with the coach joining City after three years at Bayern Munich.

Despite their domestic success, City have failed to get further than the semi-final stages of the Champions League but many fancy them as one of the favourites this season.

Speaking to BT Sport’s Rio Ferdinand, Guardiola said he is feeling good about this year’s tournament.

‘I feel good, I feel love from fans, I have everything. This country is special, I love this game a lot,’ he said.

‘Unfinished business? This is the pressure I give, it is not just about Champions League, I feel we can be better and improve our quality, extend it longer, we have not been able to do it in Europe but hopefully we can in the next years.’

When asked why City have struggled in the competition, Guardiola added: ‘You know in Champions League, JT (John Terry) missed the pen in Moscow, you won, but it was fine margins.

‘We were not good enough and were unlucky, we miss some details in the last years, there are exceptional teams in the Champions League.’

City have all-but booked their place in the quarter-finals with Guardiola’s men currently leading Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 on aggregate.

The club are also well on their way to claiming their third Premier League trophy under the Catalan. City are 14 points clear of Manchester United with eight games to play.
