  • Sociedad want Guaita to be at Anoeta until 2023 and challenge Alex Remiro

Vicente Guaita is close to agreeing a return to Spain with Real Sociedad, according to reports.

The Crystal Palace goalkeeper, who joined the club from Getafe in July 2018, has earned rave reviews for his performances this season, with his standout display coming in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham last month when he made a number of astonishing stops.

However, the 34-year-old is now keen to leave England and head back to his native Spain, as report Mundo Deportivo.

Vicente Guaita is reported to have an agreement in place to return to Spain with Real Sociedad

Guaita has been in impressive form this season and caught the eye against Tottenham

The Spanish outlet claim Guaita will reject two offers from other clubs in order to join the high-flying LaLiga side Sociedad, who currently sit sixth in the table.

The reports states that a deal has been agreed in principle for Guaita to play at Anoeta until 2023, and now all that remains is the timing of the switch.

Guaita’s contract at Selhurst Park is set to expire at the end of June, with Sociedad aiming to pull off a cut-price deal in the hope that Palace will be looking to avoid the player leave for free in summer.

Given the importance of Guaita to Palace this term however, it is likely any such move would be delayed by Roy Hodgson’s side until the summer.

Sociedad’s current number two stopper Miguel Angel Moya is sidelined and manager Imanol Alguacil wants someone with a notable pedigree to come in and challenge first-choice goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

Wayne Hennessey may well have to step up and be the number one goalkeeper if Guaita leaves

Guaita has featured as Palace’s first choice stopper this term, meaning Saturday’s clash against Wolves could be his final appearance if a January move is successfully completed.

Palace have Wales international Wayne Hennessey as deputy stopper, along with Stephen Henderson and former Stoke man Jack Butland in the first team squad.

The transfer window is set to close on Monday evening at 11.59pm, meaning all agreements must be in place and deal sheets sent off to the Premier League for approval.
