Grimsby apologise for using clip of Harvey Price to ‘celebrate’ Southampton win

Grimsby Town have apologised for using a video of Harvey Price to 'celebrate' beating Southampton in the FA Cup.

The Mariners knocked their Premier League opponents out in their fifth round meeting on Wednesday night to reach the last eight for the first time in 84 years. Two penalties from Gavan Holohan either side of half-time secured a 2-1 victory and set up a quarter-final visit to Brighton later this month.

However, the League Two club have faced criticism from fans after their social media team posted a clip of Price saying "what a day" on Twitter.

Grimsby accompanied the video with a caption reading: "Signing off for the night! Enjoy your night, Town fans." Harvey is the 20-year-old son of Katie Price and suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome, autism, ADHD and partial blindness.

Supporters were quick to criticise the post, with one tweeting: "That's Grimsby getting hammered. Taking the p*** out of disabled people after they win. What a rotten club." Another said: "What are you thinking with this?"

A third fan added: "This is in extremely poor taste. Will be very interesting to see what the FA says. They either truly believe in inclusiveness and championing disabilities or they tolerate making disabilities a joke."

Following the backlash, the tweet was later deleted before Grimsby shared a statement apologising for posting the video on social media.

The apology read: "It has come to our attention that an inappropriate gif was posted on the club’s official Twitter account late last night following our game against Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup.

"The post was removed this morning as soon as we were made aware. We would like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence it has caused."

Grimsby's win over Southampton will see them appear in the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1939 as one of four sides from outside the Premier League left in the competition.

Paul Hurst's side have beaten Plymouth Argyle, Cambridge United, Burton Albion and Luton Town since beginning their cup campaign in the first round back in November.
