Greggs offers Newcastle fans free bakes after Saudi takeover completed
Greggs offered Newcastle United fans a free steak bake following the completion of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's takeover.
PIF group, who Bin Salman chairs, acquired Newcastle on Thursday evening with Mike Ashley's reign coming to an end.
The takeover makes Newcastle the richest side in club football, and they are now worth ten times the amount of Manchester City and PSG.
Fans celebrated the departure of Ashley outside of St James' Park on Thursday evening, and Greggs have decided to sweeten, or savour, the deal.
The fast-food chain offered 260 free steak bakes to Newcastle fans on Twitter.
One Newcastle fan, in 2020, tweeted: "If this takeover happens I'll buy everyone a steak bake from @GreggsOfficial #NUFC #NUFCTakeover."
And Greggs responded: "We look forward to seeing you Kieran," before adding, "We'll help a guy out, 260 free Bakes on us!
"The first 130 of you to reply to this tweet with 'My Bakes are on Kieran' get a free Bake for you and a mate #iykyk."
Newcastle has been named as the 'capital of Greggs', and the chain opened up its first store in Gosforth, a suburb of Newcastle.
A survey in 2016 discovered that Newcastle housed 29 Greggs, with a further 17 in the nearby city of Gateshead.
