Jack Grealish admits he wished he never mocked Miguel Almiron but is loving how the Newcastle man has responded on the pitch.
The Manchester City star had a few drinks as he celebrated his side’s Premier League title win last season when he was asked about how they won their final game against Aston Villa to clinch the title.
Grealish said at the time: “The first secret was to take off Riyad Mahrez because he was playing like Miguel Almiron.”

But he has been hammered on social media for the comments as the Paraguayan has netted eight goals for the Magpies so far this season.
Grealish said yesterday: “It was the day after the season finished and obviously I’d had a few drinks and stuff. That was one thing I regret.
How impressed have you been with Almiron this season? Let us know in the comments section below.
“I messaged Matt Targett because I’m close with him from Villa and I said to him ‘can you message him for me and say to him that I apologise, I obviously didn’t mean it’. When I look back on that, that was just one thing that was stupid of me to say it. I shouldn’t have said it.”
Grealish has been impressed by how Almiron responded on and off the pitch as the Magpies star refused to criticise him for the comments in an interview last month.
The England star added: “I swear, I’m actually buzzing the way he’s reacted. He said something about me in the interview the other day, he wished me the best.
“I thought ‘what a guy man’ because if that was me and somebody had said that about me, I’d have probably been the other way and been like ‘f*** it’. He seems like the most harmless, nice guy, so fair play, I’m buzzing for him.”
He also hopes Almiron continues to prove him wrong on the pitch – if the abuse on social media from Newcastle fans stop. Grealish added: “I do regret it because I shouldn;t have done it, but it’s in the past and if I ever played against him, I’d show him the most respect because that’s what he’s done in a situation where he probably didn’t have to.
“Fair play to him and I genuinely hope he does keep scoring, as long as those Newcastle fans stop messaging me.”
