Goal-shy Chelsea flop Timo Werner ‘wanted by Real Madrid’ in surprise transfer
New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly eager to sign misfiring 25-year-old striker Timo Werner from Chelsea.
The former Blues coach is keen on bringing Werner to Madrid from his old club as he replaces three-time Champions League winner Zinedine Zidane on a three-year deal in the Spanish capital, it is reported.
Ancelotti, 61, has a difficult task in rebuilding an ageing squad on a limited budget due to Real’s estimated £1billion crippling debt and stadium rebuild.
The Sun reports that Werner is high on the Italian’s transfer wish-list despite an underwhelming season where he scored 12 goals across 52 appearances in all competitions.
While Werner came under fire from Premier League fans and pundits alike for his lack of confidence in front of goal, he still had a starting-role in Chelsea winning the Champions League and top-four finish.
The German registered 15 assists which demonstrates his overall contribution to the team may have been overlooked.
Real meanwhile are said to believe they can acquire the forward for a fee lower than the £53million which Chelsea paid RB Leipzig in 2020.
Werner’s overall contribution and ability to press could work effectively alongside the clinical Karim Benzema who scored 22 league goals for Los Blancos last season.

Ancelotti is also rumoured to be keen on bringing back Gareth Bale who scored 16 goals in 34 appearances while on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last campaign.
Another transfer target is Houssem Aouar who had a disappointing season at Lyon and can consequently be bought for a lower price.
